2018 Summer Sessions

Summer 2018

This summer we will offer group sessions at Camp Royall (Pittsboro, NC) for our group members.  

Group Sessions at Camp Royall will include social teaching coupled with outdoor recreation and generalization of skills from our regular classroom teaching.

We need a minimum of 4 kids to run each session.  *These summer sessions are also open to siblings of our group members, please inquire if interested, we offer a sibling discount.*

Dates of the individual sessions are :

June 30
July 7
July 21
August 4
August 25 (**this group will be at the church in Durham, a back to school preparation session) 

The hours for our summer meetings are 10 am – 1 pm (this includes August 25 at the church). The cost is $120 per session.

We are able to provide transportation to/from camp, from/to Triangle Presbyterian Church in Durham for those interested. We have spots for up to 6 kids in the mini van. The cost is $15 per day for this additional service.  

Those receiving transportation service need to be at the church with kids ready to leave by 9:15am.  The group will return around 1:45pm.  Jen Kirschner, group leader, will provide the transport and has booster seats available as well.

Basic Group Offering Information

Making Connections offers groups throughout the year for children with social and communication difficulties of various age levels. Each group session's length will vary dependent on holidays and school calendars.

We use a variety of methods to teach and support children including visual structure, schedules, rewards, and transitional cues. These groups are appropriate for children who are able to participate and function in a small group setting with minimal one-to-one support.

Our school year groups are as follows and they take place on Saturday mornings.

Classroom Connections: Preparing for the classroom! This class will focus on developing individualized strategies to help your child learn how to be a productive, active member of a group and/or classroom. The focus of this group will be to work on play sequences and paths, body control and awareness, social conversation and learning finger-plays. A brief snack time will be included during the hour as well, to help facilitate a very natural social time in the day. This group is for preschool aged children 3-5 years old.

Playful Pirates: This group will be focused on taking our group social skills to the next level. Navigating social skills at school (cafeteria, on playground, in class). We will work on being an active member of the group, engaging others in conversation, and sharing interests. A brief snack time will be included during the hour as well, to help facilitate a very natural social time in the day. This group is for elementary school aged children 5-8 years old.

Club Chat: (TBD) Group is designed for children 11-15 years old. Primarily community based with some in-house meetings to plan our community outings. This group has been happening about 2 times per session in recent months. Inquire further for more information.
